How Does It All Work?

Please call us on 07 3379 8849 to arrange an appointment.

Appointments

Typically last 50 minutes. At the first appointment you will be able to discuss your current concerns or difficulties.  You and your psychologist will work together to gain a mutual understanding of your concerns by discussing your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and your relevant history. You may be asked to complete some questionnaires. During subsequent appointments the aim of the treatment is to work in partnership with you to develop skills and strategies to enhance your ability to control and cope with difficulties, and to improve your well-being.

Clients are often provided with exercises and strategies during sessions and are asked to practise them.  By practising these exercises, clients can maximise their potential for improvement between sessions.

Referrals

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist.  You can contact us directly to make enquiries and to schedule an appointment.

Some private health insurance rebates are available for clients.  Please check with your health insurer to discuss if you are eligible for a rebate.

Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists under the Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. People who are experiencing difficulties with their thoughts, emotions, or social abilties may be eligible for a Medicare rebate. If you wish to receive the Medicare rebates you will need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) , psychiatrist or paediatrician. Your GP will need to complete a detailed mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you to a psychologist.  You should book a longer session with your GP to enable time for this. Eligible people can receive up to ten individual sessions in a calendar year, and your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

People utilise the services of a psychologist for various reasons, so it is difficult to estimate how many sessions you may need. However, typically clients attend between three and twelve sessions.

Fees

Clients are required to pay the full fee at the time of consultation. The cost of the session is $240. You may be eligible to claim a rebate for your consultations via Medicare or your private health insurance. Clients who are eligible for Medicare and have obtained a Mental Health Care Plan, will receive the rebate back of $137.05 (correct as at 1st November 2023). The Medicare rebate will be applied electronically on the spot back into your account linked with Medicare, usually within 48 hours if not sooner.

This is not a bulk-billing practice.
